About Prof Richard J Johnson

Dr Richard J Johnson is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado. He is a physician and scientist, and his research has focused on the cause of kidney disease, obesity and diabetes. His primary focus has been on the role of sugar (especially the fructose component) and uric acid. He has published over 900 papers and is highly cited (>100,000 citations) and has lectured in approximately 50 countries. He is also a founding editor of a major textbook in nephrology, Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, that is now in the 8th edition. In addition, he has written three books for the general readership, including the Sugar Fix, the Fat Switch, with the most recent book being Nature Wants Us to Be Fat.
